Wix is one of the most popular website builders on the market. And for good reason – it’s beginner-friendly, has loads of features, and offers a 100% free plan. But if you’re looking to upgrade from the free plan, you might wonder what the paid plans are all about. Learn more in this Wix Unlimited Plan review.

From $22/month

I’m a big fan of Wix. In my Wix review, I have covered all the key features and pros and cons of this beginner-friendly and featured-packed website builder. Here, I will zoom in on their Unlimited plan ($22/month).

When I choose a website building platform, I want a fair price, but I also want good value and high quality.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always prepared to pay a little bit more if it means I’m going to get a much better product.

The Wix Unlimited option isn’t the cheapest option (it’s the second cheapest). So for the extra cost, one would expect to receive an elevated selection of features. Plus, the name “unlimited” is rather enticing, isn’t it? Who doesn’t want unlimited features?

However, is everything as it seems? Or is the Wix Unlimited a big name but with little substance?

I’m going to cover all that and more in this review.

TL;DR: The Wix Unlimited plan does, in fact, have limits and doesn’t provide any notable value compared with the cheaper Combo plan. The platform’s Business plans offer far better features, including e-commerce, and are therefore much bigger value.

What is Wix and the Unlimited Plan?

What is Wix and the Unlimited Plan?

Wix has been going since 2006 and has gained an impressive one million users by 2009. Nowadays, it is considered one of the top free website creation platforms and boasts an incredible 200 million users worldwide.

Along with its highly popular free plan, Wix has a number of paid plans available to suit various different needs, including standard websites, eCommerce, and enterprise-level businesses.

The Unlimited plan is specifically for standard websites and is the second cheapest after the Combo plan. It’s touted as a solution specifically for entrepreneurs and freelancers since it includes a number of enhanced features.

Since I’m an entrepreneur myself, I figure I’m perfectly placed to tell whether it delivers the goods and if it’s worth its “unlimited” title or not.

Let’s find out.

Features at a Glance

You’ve paid for a plan, you’re ready to go. Here’s what you can access:

  • Free domain for one year
  • Free SSL certificate
  • $600 worth of ad vouchers
  • Free Site Booster app for one year
  • Free Visitor Analytics app for one year
  • Up to one hour of video
  • 5 GB storage space
  • Wix branding is removed
  • Use of all Wix templates
  • Use of the Wix mobile app for site management
  • 24/7 customer support

Why Choose Wix’s Unlimited Plan?

The reason you would choose the Unlimited plan over the cheaper Combo plan is for the extra features you get. But what are they exactly? Here’s the rundown of what to expect.

Over 800 Templates

wix 800+ templates
Browse my collection of Wix templates

One of Wix’s winning features is its sheer array of templates on offer. They’re all free to use and are available for different purposes (shop, blog, community, etc.) and different needs (full site, landing page, portfolio, etc.).

The platform also prides itself on its ease of use, and this is certainly true. It’s very simple to customize a template using the drag-and-drop editing tool.

Wix is also pretty decent for SEO (certainly far better than it was back in the day, at least) and lets you optimize each page for better chances of being found in SERP results. More on that is below.

Up to $600 in Ad Vouchers

Up to $600 in Ad Vouchers

This is a really decent “extra” because it lets you discover Google Ads and Bing risk-free.

I know too well that setting up ads the right way can be an absolute minefield and is fairly tricky to get right. However, Wix generously supplies you with $500 worth of Google Ads vouchers and $100 of Bing ad vouchers.

While this amount may not stretch too far, it’s usually enough to get started and find what works for your business.

There are some caveats to be aware of here. Your site must be new to Google Ads, and you must not have placed an ad with Google for your site in the past. Furthermore, you must spend $500 on ads within the first 60 days to get the $500 credit back.

Free Visitor Analytics App

Free Visitor Analytics App

This feature is only available to those on the Unlimited plan upwards. It’s a third-party app called Visitor Analytics that gives you an absolute tonne of traffic analytics and stats for your website.

Knowing this information helps you improve your site and visitor numbers as the data lets you understand where and how to tweak your site’s performance.

For example, if you see that visitors are quickly leaving a certain page on your site, you know that you need to look at why and then make the necessary adjustments.

While this is a highly useful extra, Wix actually has its own analytics and reporting system, which tells you pretty much the same thing. So, overall, I’m unsure how useful this perk would be to the average joe.

Furthermore, Visitor Analytics is only free for the first year. After that, it costs from around $10/month to continue accessing the information.

Free Site Booster App

Free Site Booster App

Site Booster is an app that lists your business on all the top platforms. The advantage of this is that you can easily be found no matter which app is being used, and it ensures that all the information is consistent across the board.More apps can be purchased via Wix App Market.

wix app market

For example, you can have your business listed on Google Maps, Waze, Yelp, Bing, FourSquare, and many more.

This service is highly convenient because it saves you the hassle of setting up your presence on hundreds of apps and sites and allows you to manage the information from a single area. So if you change your opening hours or contact number, you can do it in Site Booster, and it’ll send the changes out and update all your listings automatically.

Again, this is a wonderful feature, especially if you are a brick-and-mortar business and need to be found in local directories. The kicker is that you only get it free for a year, and after that, you must pay $14.99/month to keep using it.

One Hour of Video Streaming

One Hour of Video Streaming

If you plan to have video content on your website, then you’ll be pleased to hear that Wix will accommodate up to an hour of video on the Unlimited plan.

This means you can upload single or multiple videos as long as the total length doesn’t exceed one hour. Additional benefits for this feature, when compared with the free plan, is the ability to:

  • Upload videos longer than ten minutes in length
  • Livestream
  • Add your logo to the video
  • Allow others to embed your video on other sites

For the average website, this is generally enough video time and plenty if you simply plan on just having a few video ads on your pages. However, one hour will be too limited should you want to upload webinars or a lot of course content.

SEO Tools

wix seo tools

Over the years, Wix has become much better in regard to what it offers for SEO. Now, you have a pretty decent range of SEO tools, many of which are easy to use or automatically done for you.

Aimed at beginners or those new to SEO, Wix provides all website owners with a personalized checklist of everything they need to do for their site and get it SEO optimized. All you do is follow the actionable steps from start to finish, and by the end of it, your site should be good to go.

In addition to this, Wix also provides the following tools to help you get your SEO on point:

  • Automatically optimized site infrastructure
  • Customizable URLs
  • Automatic sitemap creation
  • Auto page resizing for fast loading speeds
  • Modifiable page metadata
  • Structured data markups
  • URL redirects
  • Google Search Console integration
  • Google Business Profile integration

Pricing

Wix Unlimited Plan Pricing

Wix allows you to pay for its Unlimited plan on a monthly or annual basis:

  • $29/month billed month by month; or
  • $22/month billed annually (saving 24% compared with paying monthly)

Wix does not have a free trial, as you can use the platform for free on a limited basis for as long as you want. If you pay for a plan and change your mind, you can get a full refund as long as you request it within 14 days of purchasing.

To start with the Unlimited plan, sign up for a free account here, then click upgrade. Go here for more info about the Wix pricing plans.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Wix is especially good for its ease of use and great-looking templates
  • It’s the plan to choose if you want to launch an online business
  • You get more video time than on the cheaper Combo plan
  • The free ad vouchers are a nice extra if you can manage to use them in time
  • Customer support is 24/7, so you should be able to easily reach someone
  • It’s not bad for SEO

Cons

  • A lot of the freebies are limited to the first year
  • Most features are not unlimited
  • The plan isn’t particularly good value. The Wix Business Basic plan is similar in price, and you get way more features in return

Questions & Answers

Our Verdict ⭐

To be completely honest, unless you need the extra storage and video hours, I don’t feel that the Wix Unlimited is worth the extra spend and that Wix’s Combo plan will do just nicely.

And “Unlimited” is a bit of a misleading statement since most of the features are actually limited, and the added third-party tools are only good for one year.

Create a Stunning Website Easily with Wix

Experience the perfect blend of simplicity and power with Wix. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned professional, Wix offers an intuitive, drag-and-drop editing tool, customizable features, and robust eCommerce capabilities. Transform your ideas into a stunning website with Wix.

I feel the Business Basic plan is much better value. It only costs a few dollars more than the Wix Unlimited, plus you get a whopping 50 GB storage and FIVE hours worth of video. And you get e-commerce tools to boot.

However, if you do decide to sign up for Wix Unlimited, it is perfectly adequate for the average freelancer that doesn’t plan to use their website to sell anything.

In any case, you can try Wix out for free and, from there, decide which plan works for you.
